Poems and Songs
Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson was such a great 'SON' of Norway that he had come to be regarded as the 'Father of the Nation' much before he won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1903. He was one of the five member committee elected by the Norwegian Storting to Institute the Nobel Peace Prize. A close friend of Henrik Ibsen (a crony at the University of Oslo) - their friendship continued through the marriage of Bjørnson's daughter with Ibsen's son. I like and recommend his" Poems and Songs" especially "The Song of Norway" which runs thus: "Yes we love this land that towers/ Where the ocean foams./ Rugged, storm swept, it embowers/ Many thousand homes./ Love it Love it' of you thinking/ Father, Mother, dear,/ and that night of sinking/ Dreamful of us here.
