The interviewer is Adam Smith, Editor-in-Chief of Nobelprize.org. Lee Hartwell talks about how a high school physics teacher stimulated his interest in science, the unusual path that led to him studying biology at the California Institute of Technology (11:13), what attracted him to studying cell growth and regulation (13:12), and his views on the desperate need to develop better diagnostic tools for improving treatment of cancer and other diseases (28:46).
