Hovdhaugen, Einar 1908 - 1996
Farmer, Writer and Politician Center Party

Einar Hovdhaugen was Secretary General of the Farmer's Party (later renamed the Center Party) in 1946-1949. He was a member of the Storting in 1958-1969. Hovdhaugen was engaged in cultural affairs and was a member of several public commissions dealing with matters ranging from media policy to state-subsidized theatre for rural areas in Norway. He has published both literary and historical works, especially books on Norwegian emigration.

Einar Hovdhaugen was a member of the Norwegian Nobel Committee in 1973. He resigned after having opposed the award to Kissinger and Le Duc Tho.
