Dr Albert Schweitzer delivers his Nobel Lecture (the first part) in the auditorium of Oslo University, 4 November 1954, almost a year after having received the award. Norwegian students pay tribute to Schweitzer with a torchlight procession.

Dr Albert Schweitzer celebrated his 85th birthday on 14 January 1960 at Lambaréné in the heart of equatorial Africa. Lambaréné, a hospital and medical mission, was founded and built in 1913 by Dr Schweitzer and his wife Helene. Primarily a leper colony, the hospital soon became a haven for Africans suffering from all types of diseases and injury.
