Motivation: Weiss was nominated for his contribution to the development of international law, mainly through his extensive scientific writings on international civil law. He promoted mediation, a permanent international court of arbitration and sanctions in order to observe the rules of international law. Weiss was member of several juridical associations, including Institut de France, Institut de Droit International, and the International Court of Arbitration at The Hague.
