Motivation: Hull was nominated for his efforts to improve relations between the USA and Latin America. He encouraged détente and a spirit of peace on the American continent through his Pan-American policy, the so-called "Good Neighbor Policy". Hull also made efforts to establish a liberal economic policy and to remove international trade restrictions.
