			Roy Glauber – the father of quantum optics The challenge that Roy Glauber took up was to formulate a theory that gave optics a quantum-mechanical explanation too. He succeeded in describing a general method for observing photons which gave a correct picture of, for example, the difference between light from a laser and from an ordinary light bulb.
