Information about the nominations, investigations, and opinions concerning the award is kept secret for fifty years.

Johannes V. Jensen was nominated 18 times before he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1944. Angel Guimerà y Jorge was nominated 17 times, but was never awarded the Prize. Thomas Mann, who was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1929, was nominated for a second Prize in 1948. In 1905 the Swedish Academy was mislead when G. Sweven was nominated by J. M. Brown. It was later noted that Godfrey Sweven was the pen-name of John Macmillan Brown. This type of information, and much more, is available in the Nomination Database spanning the years 1901-1950.
