Minkyung Baek is an Assistant Professor at Seoul National University who uses AI to predict and design proteins. She developed RoseTTAFold in the Nobel Prize–winning lab of David Baker.

Minkyung Baek is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at Seoul National University. She received both her B.S. and Ph.D. in Chemistry from Seoul National University. Her research brings together biology, structural modeling, and artificial intelligence to understand and design proteins, the molecular machines that carry out nearly every task in living cells. By teaching computers to predict the three-dimensional shapes of these molecules and how they fit together, her work opens new paths in drug discovery, vaccine development, and the design of entirely new proteins not found in nature. Before returning to Seoul National University as a faculty member, she was a postdoctoral researcher in the laboratory of David Baker at the University of Washington, who was awarded the 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his pioneering work in computational protein design. There, she developed RoseTTAFold, an AI system that predicts protein structures with remarkable accuracy and helped usher in a new era of biology guided by artificial intelligence. Her ongoing research continues to bridge biology and AI, using computational tools to accelerate the design of next-generation therapeutics.
