Seon Joo Kim is a Professor in the Department of Computer Science at Yonsei University, where he leads the CIP Lab and serves as chairman of the AI Graduate School. In 2022 he was named an Underwood Distinguished Professor, one of Yonsei’s highest academic honours.

His research spans computer vision, 3D scene understanding and sequence modelling, centred on how machines perceive and reason about the visual world as it unfolds over time. His work on Space-Time Memory Networks became a foundation for modern video object segmentation, and he now asks how machines might reconstruct dynamic 3D scenes continuously from streaming video. He also leads Diffusion Camera, a project aimed at a new generation of photography he calls Generative Photography — a single foundation model that replaces the fragmented pipeline of camera tasks with one generative system.

He is an Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence and has served as Area Chair and Senior Area Chair at CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, and NeurIPS. He will serve as Program Chair of CVPR 2028, the flagship conference in the field.
