Motivation: | The following candidates were nominated by Storm van Leeuwen, Leiden, NL: Sir Charles Sherrington, prof physiology, Oxford, GB (NP med 1932) for work on segmental innervation, the physiology of reflex action, "decerebrate rigidity" and tonus, and on the function of the cerebral cortex. Rudolf Magnus, prof pharmacology, Utrecht University, Utrecht, NL; and Dr Adrian de Kleyn, also of Utrecht, for studies of posture and its dependence on the labyrinths and proprioceptive pathways from muscles and joints. Nomination was declared invalid by the Nobel Committee. |
