Born 1944 in Stockholm, Sweden. BA, University of Uppsala, 1964. Further postgraduate studies at the universities of Uppsala and Stockholm - 1968.

1972-76 Ministry of Industry and Ministry of Finance; 1977-80 Permanent Swedish Delegation to the OECD, Paris, Financial Counsellor; 1981-1982 Research Department of the Social-Democratic Parliamentary Group; 1982-84 Ministry of Finance, Head of Planning, Economic Department; 1985-87 Ministry of Finance, Director of the Budget; 1987-89 Ministry of Agriculture, Under-Secretary of State; 1989-91 Ministry for Foreign Affairs, Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Trade; 1992 from May 1, Executive Director of the Nobel Foundation.

Board Member inter alia Sweden Post Pension Fund, Chairman; Stockholm Institute of Transition Economies; Institute for Financial Research; The Crafoord Foundation. Member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences and the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences. Officier de la Légion d'Honneur.
