Herbert Kroemer discusses being an unruly student and the various professors who inspired him, moving to Göttingen University because of the Cold War (3:49), earning a PhD at the age of twenty four (18:83), and his early career at the German Postal Service Laboratory and RCA Labs (20:47). He also explains his philosophy on education (31:16), his early work with heterostructures (33:21), his decision to return to the university system after a career in industry (43:56), and his efforts to encourage unapplied, intellectual freedom (55:29).
