Kavita Krishnamurti Subramaniam, hailed as India’s “melody queen”, is one of the most versatile and celebrated voices of Indian music.

She hailed as India’s “melody queen”, is one of the most versatile and celebrated voices of Indian music. With a career spanning over three decades and more than 20,000 songs, she has enthralled millions with her mellifluous voice across playback singing, classical, devotional, ghazals, and global collaborations.

Born in Delhi, she began training under Sri Balram Puri at a young age and by eight had already won her first gold medal in music. While studying at St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai, she began performing with legends like Hemant Kumar, Mukesh, and Manna Dey. Her playback debut came in the 1970s, and with films like Maang Bharo Sajna, Pyar Jhukta Nahin, Mr. India, Khuda.
