Hailed as the “God of Indian Violin” (Times of India) and “arguably the greatest violinist in the history of Indian music” (Chicago World Music Festival), Subramaniam has redefined the violin on the world stage. Lord Yehudi Menuhin called him “inspiring”, while The New York Times praised him as the best they had ever heard.

A child prodigy, Subramaniam performed his first concert at age six and won the All-India Radio national competition, receiving the best violinist prize from President Dr. S. Radhakrishnan. By 25, he had earned the title Violin Chakravarti. Over a career spanning more than six decades, he has mastered Carnatic and Western classical traditions, pioneered global fusion in the 1970s, and produced over 200 recordings across genres, from orchestral works to film scores.

His historic collaborations span George Harrison, Stevie Wonder, Yehudi Menuhin, Herbie Hancock, Pt. Ravi Shankar, Ustad Bismillah Khan, A.R. Rahman and many more. As a composer, he has written major symphonic works premiered by world-renowned orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic under Zubin Mehta and the Houston Symphony (Mahatma Symphony, 2022). His music has also featured in films like Salaam Bombay, Mississippi Masala and Little Buddha.

Founder of the Lakshminarayana Global Music Festival and the Lakshminarayana Global Centre of Excellence, he has brought thousands of international artists to India and advanced music education. Honoured with the Padma Bhushan, Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, and multiple doctorates, Subramaniam stands as a true cultural ambassador, blending virtuosity with vision, and carrying Indian violin to the world.
