The Nobel Peace Prize 2025 was awarded to Maria Corina Machado “for her tireless work promoting democratic rights for the people of Venezuela and for her struggle to achieve a just and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy”. Maria Corina Machado is a unifying force for the political opposition against the authoritarian rule in Venezuela. She has been prevented from running for election and lives in hiding due to the threats she is facing.
