Nobel Week Lights receives international award

6 May 2026 View in Swedish

Since 2020, the light art festival Nobel Week Lights takes place in Stockholm during Nobel Week. Each year, international and local artists, designers and students are invited to create large-scale public light artworks inspired by the Nobel Prize. The festival has now been awarded the [d]arc awards for the 2025 edition of Nobel Week Lights.

The [d]arc awards are an international prize recognising projects in lighting design and light art. Winners are selected by independent lighting designers, architects and designers from around the world. In this year’s edition of the [d]arc awards, Nobel Week Lights received the prestigious award in the Event category.

”Nobel Week Lights is made possible thanks to the dedication of artists, partners, technicians, local communities and civil organisations. This award is recognition of what is possible when a team of over 150 people on the ground all work together, dream together and welcome audiences into the light during the darkest time of the year,” says Lara Szabo Greisman, Festival Director.

The 2025 edition of the festival particularly highlighted issues of peace, human rights and curiosity about scientific phenomena through 19 light artworks installed in central Stockholm and in Tensta. Many of the works were created in close collaboration with local communities, students, young people and school pupils. Several installations took inspiration from the current geopolitical situation, while others invited audiences to explore everything from gravitational waves to astrophysics through interactive experiences.
