Harry M. Markowitz

Banquet speech

Harry M. Markowitz’ speech at the Nobel Banquet, December 10, 1990

Your Majesties, Your Royal Highnesses, Ladies and Gentlemen,

I would like to express my deepest thanks to the Nobel Foundation for the honor you do us, on behalf of the three of us who are here tonight and on behalf of hundreds of others who consider Financial Economics to be their principal field. We take this award to be a recognition and acceptance of Financial Economics as a branch of Economics, equal to any, as much as a reward for the efforts of three individuals.

At a more personal level I would like to thank Your Majesties, Your Royal Highnesses – indeed I would like to thank all of Sweden – for the great, grand good time you have shown my family and me during this wonderful Nobel week.

Many, many thanks to all of you. Thank you.
