The Ceremony begins with the arrival of the Royal family, King Carl XVI Gustaf, Queen Silvia and Princess Lilian, and the Nobel Laureates and representatives of the Prize-Awarding Institutions. The 1999 Nobel Laureates receive their Nobel Prizes from the hands of His Majesty the King. Walter Kohn, 1998 Nobel Laureate in Chemistry, also receives his Prize.
Their work and discoveries range from the formation of black holes and genetic scissors to efforts to combat hunger and develop new auction formats.
