Announcement of the 2012 Nobel Prize in Chemistry by Professor Staffan Normark, Permanent Secretary of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, on 10 October 2012.
Following the announcement, Professor Sara Snogerup Linse, Member of the Nobel Committee for Chemistry, was interviewed by freelance journalist Joanna Rose about the 2012 Nobel Prize in Chemistry.
Professor Linse shortly described how the paths of the Nobel Laureates have crossed over the years and how their eureka moment is attributed to persistence and hard lab work. Outlining their work and its consequences for new drugs, she also commented upon how the borders between medicine and chemistry are less defined.
Their work and discoveries range from cancer therapy and laser physics to developing proteins that can solve humankind’s chemical problems. The work of the 2018 Nobel Laureates also included combating war crimes, as well as integrating innovation and climate with economic growth. Find out more.
