During the Nobel Centennial Symposia ‘Beyond Genes’, held on 6 December 2001, at Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, Sweden, H. Robert Horvitz gave his lecture ‘Genetic Control of Apoptosis in Caenorhabditis elegans’.
Six prizes were awarded for achievements that have conferred the greatest benefit to humankind. The 10 laureates' work and discoveries range from optogenetics to efforts to promote peace and international law.
