Prize announcement
Announcement of the 2007 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine to Mario R. Capecchi, Sir Martin J. Evans and Oliver Smithies, presented by Professor Hans Jörnvall, Secretary of the Nobel Committee for Physiology or Medicine, on 8 October 2007.
A presentation of the prize-awarded work was held by Professor Christer Betsholtz.
Following the announcement, Professor Göran K. Hansson told senior editor Simon Frantz why the 2007 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine was awarded to the pioneers of gene targeting.
Six prizes were awarded for achievements that have conferred the greatest benefit to humankind. The 10 laureates' work and discoveries range from optogenetics to efforts to promote peace and international law.
