The Norwegian Nobel Committee is deeply appalled by credible reports detailing the brutal arrest, physical abuse, and ongoing life‑threatening mistreatment of Nobel Peace Prize laureate Narges Mohammadi, currently detained in Iran.
 
The Committee urgently calls upon the Iranian authorities to immediately and unconditionally release Mohammadi and to guarantee her access to independent, professional medical care.

On 8 January, the Nobel Peace Prize laureate 2022 met the Norwegian Nobel Committee for the first time. Ales Bialiatski has been imprisoned twice; firstly from 2011 to 2014, and from 2021 to 2025. He was still in prison when he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2022. Bialiatski was released and exiled to Lithuania on 13 December 2025.
